October 12, 2009 · Leave a Comment

In a move which will see Sky (aka the people who own all those sky boxes in your Home) go Head to Head with Apple’s Itunes and Spotify. It has been Announced that Sky is to launch an online music service offering access to over four million tracks for download and ad-free streaming. The Service will be Called “SKY Song”. It will Be launched on the 19th of October, 2009 and will be available to any consumer in the UK with an active broadband connection. It will be launched with new releases and back catalogues from EMI, Sony, Universal and Warner plus independent labels and distributors.

Sky Songs costs £6.49 a month for an album or ten songs. Customers can also purchase additional music on a per-track or per-album basis from 65p and £6.49 respectively.

The service will be available at: http://songs.sky.com/

…………………….What will Spotify and Itunes do to compete with this new service? Also SKY’s only major competitor for Satelite and Digital Cable “Virgin” is likely to try and compete with SkY and launch a similar service……….this means more competition…which in the end can only be good for us consumers if it results in price wars :)
